Yam porridge, also called Asaro, is a comforting Nigerian dish made by cooking yam cubes in a rich palm oil sauce with pepper, fish or meat, and vegetables. It is soft, flavorful, and very filling for lunch.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • 1 medium yam (peeled and cubed)
  • Palm oil
  • Fresh pepper and onions
  • Smoked fish or meat
  • Crayfish
  • Spinach or ugu leaves
  • Seasoning cubes and salt

Steps

  1. Boil yam cubes with pepper and onion.
  2. Add palm oil, crayfish, and fish.
  3. Cook until yam softens and thickens the sauce.
  4. Add vegetables and simmer briefly.
