Yam porridge, also called Asaro, is a comforting Nigerian dish made by cooking yam cubes in a rich palm oil sauce with pepper, fish or meat, and vegetables. It is soft, flavorful, and very filling for lunch.
Ingredients
- Ingredients
- 1 medium yam (peeled and cubed)
- Palm oil
- Fresh pepper and onions
- Smoked fish or meat
- Crayfish
- Spinach or ugu leaves
- Seasoning cubes and salt
Steps
- Boil yam cubes with pepper and onion.
- Add palm oil, crayfish, and fish.
- Cook until yam softens and thickens the sauce.
- Add vegetables and simmer briefly.
